I want to disable the applet that constantly checks for free disk space. I don't see any provision for disabling it or any way to set the amount of free space left before it interrupts everything with the dialog box that your disk space is low and to run disk cleanup. Disk Cleanup causes buffer overrun
I'm thinking that when I had to restore my os, that the 'old files' that are being shown in the disk cleanup area are leftover files from the original installation of windows. Should I format my hard drive completely, ( with all 0's ) and start over ? Would that eliminate all old files being shown ?

Programs, Accessories, System Tools, DISK CLEANUP. This shows the words disk cleanup, but it cannot find the file/program to run disk cleanup. I've also tried start, run, cleanmgr. This is supposed to come with Windows. How do I find it or install it or download it from Microsoft somewhere?

Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup, and in the System Tools section, uncheck the Disk Cleanup item. Apply, reboot.
